Keemun
Also known as Qimen, Qimen Hong Cha, Qimen Black Tea
A Chinese black tea from Qimen County in the south of Anhui; Keemun is the old English spelling of Qimen. It was first made in 1875 with methods learned from tea makers in Fujian, from the same tea plant that gives the green tea Huangshan Maofeng.
Taste
Gentle and malty, like unsweetened cocoa, with floral and slightly smoky notes
How we brew it
95 °C, 3 g per 250 ml, 3 minutes.
Our personal recommendation – adjust it to your taste.
Cultural background
Part of its floral character comes from a high share of geraniol, an aroma compound. Keemun is still used in classic blends such as Earl Grey. Keemun Mao Feng is lighter and sweeter; Keemun Hao Ya is more intense.
